What is The Reel Take about?
Every year, the spring season is the most relevant when it comes to movies. The Oscars are during the last weekend of February, so there will be a good amount of Oscar commentary leading up to, and following the Academy Awards.
As an avid movie watcher, I am always entertained but confused during Oscar season. There are the big movies that everybody has seen. But then there are also the movies that I never knew were in existence. There are a couple of those titles in this year's class, but have no fear, by the time the Oscars roll around on the 25th, I will have seen every film on the best picture nomination list.
Being a student at the University of Memphis, I will also take a look at lower-budget productions and local films. Last year, the best documentary was "Undefeated," a local film following a high school football team from a less-privileged area of Memphis. There is a lot of film talent in this part of the country, and there are a lot of subjects where the talent and attention can be focused.
